Maxis Communication Berhad Merger With Airasia Finance Essay - Free Essay Example
The meaning of merger which is combination of two or more firms, in which the objectives are enhanced and increase shareholders wealth, increase company profit and allow the company move into a rapidly growing market place. Maxis Communication Berhad (MCB) leading the mobile provider and has mostly subscribers in Malaysia, The company provides mobile, fixed line telephony, data and network services and also a largest IPO ever in Malaysia and South East Asia. Although MCB having a strong financial background, but its competitor which are Celcom Berhad and Digi Telecommunication also considered as a very strong background and advantages competitor, how to prevent exceed by those company? Our suggestion for the MCB is merger with the Airsia (Malaysia low-cost airlines). Airasia operates scheduled domestic and international flights and is Asias largest low-fare, no-frills airline. These mergers are considering as conglomerate merger which means combination of company in unrelated business. We choose Airasia as a target, because Airasia has keep growing around the Asia and it been chooses become a Worlds Best Low-Cost Airline for 2009. According our research, Airasia are also finding more subsidiary and partnership to expand their business, which does will be an opportunity for MCB as well and the key benefit of that merger is ability reduce risk by MCB. Unfortunately, Airasia are still under a huge debt, but that become the main motive why we suggestion that MCB merger with it, because of tax consideration are a key motive for merging. Under that situation, will increase profit and increase shareholders wealth of MCB as well. Beside that, because of Airasia have a strong management team, which teams can keep minimize net loss of capital and maximi ze profit at a same time, operation their borrowing asset well and keep growing under the situation of debt. Strength From our suggestion, if MCB successfully merger with Airasia, it definitely bring much advantages than the disadvantages such as because of Airasia brands name, it will easily make advertising for the MCB. Regarding the MCB perspective, they are keeping advertising about their product which is broadband, 3G network, Iphone package, postpaid, prepaid and so on. Because of those advertising for the product, according for the MCB annual report mentioned that under the sales and marketing parts, it cost around 4.6% from their of revenue driven by year-end promotions, although it does not costly than other, but if MCB merger with airasia, they can saves those expenses for expands business or doing investment on the future. Because of Airasia brands name are well establishment in Asia pacific and advantages, strong brand name recognition of global market by organization, and Airasia are highly frequency linked with country such as Brunei, Cambonia, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, India, Ira n, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Australia and so on, it will bring the benefit and increase reputation, brand name recognition of MCB. It easily makes advertising through their aircraft. At a same time, it will increase MCBs recognition by other organization with under a very rapidly growing market situation than other strongest competitor. Furthermore, successfully merger between the both companies, MCB will continuously become the strong leading mobile phone service provider in Malaysia, and Airasia will become a leading airline industry in Asia. Those will have a strongly financial background, will attract more investor to do investment and attract more people using Maxis network. In addition, MCB will have good potential increase managerial skill and technology from Airasia, because of their stronger management team. From Airasia perspective, company merger will enhance their fund-raising ability, company may be unable to obtain funds for its own internal expansion beca use of highly debt background but to obtain funds for external from (MCB) combination, and because of MCB has high liquid asset and low level of liabilities, it considered benefit for Airasia as well, it immediately decreasing financial leverage and allow funds to be raised externally at lower cost and reduce their debt in the future. These reasons mentioned that Airasia must accept suggestion merger by MCB. Weakness Although if merger with Airasia will bring along of advantages and benefit, but also does to consideration about the disadvantages for the merger. MCB can control significantly larger amount of assets than could acquire through merger, but major disadvantages of MCB which will increase risk resulting of the leverage effect, and must be pay attention that Airasia are having the bigger amount of debt on the future in 12 years repayment period, MCB may help Airasia covers its debt on that moments which means MCB immediately having debt at a same time. In addition, if MCB successfully merger with Airasia, it will become difficult to analyze by the MCB, and investor of MCB have difficulty understanding because of these complexity. In addition, effect of a merger on the earning per share of the MCB initial decrease in the per-share earnings of stock is expected. MCB will sell at low earning per share, its shareholders value may suffer of that merger at a short-term period. So, we define this merger as a long-term investment by MCB. From financial perspective, higher risks are higher return, thats why we suggest that MCB merger with Airasia, although these have few disadvantages. Opportunities According the annual report by the Airasia, we know that Airasia are still under the huge amount of debt. The tax loss can be applied against a limited amount of future income of the MCB, that is a consideration by the purpose of merger, if successfully merger with Airasia, it will bring a lot of benefit and after-tax earning by reducing the taxable income of the MCB. Although Airasia having a huge debt, but they have a strong management team which are control their debt as well. As the information, we know that borrowings of AirAsia are all in USD, it will benefit from the depreciation of USD because of this recent years economics crisis, USD are getting depreciation day by day, Airasia may having the foreign exchange gain from the repayment of debt. However, the foreign exchange gains just an accounting gain, which wont generate any real cash flow or economic value. Furthermore, fast expansion of AirAsia, leveraging on financing facilities, is one of the factors that enable AirAs ia to maintain its profitability in the highly competitive airlines industry. Regarding the economics of the world this few years, only the lowest cost player through effectively cost reduction, economic scale, and growing market place will survive. Those reasons are become the main purpose why MCB needs merger with them and we feel that Airasia are getting growing with rapidly, and way of expansion which are through borrowings instead of issuing new shares is the best way to benefit the shareholders as well. From MCB perspectives, maybe can follow their way and management to increase asset by borrowing from others although include the interest, but MCB will have more cash flow in hand, it can be use for expand business by highly return area or diversification investment. Beside that, Although the earnings per share of Airasia is quite low, RM 20.6, compare to the MCB earnings per share, RM 27.25, it allow investors believe that this merger will increase the wealth of the shareholde rs due to the high value of both companies in the market now on the future. Those reasons are becomes the way to keep growing and expands the businesses of MCB. Threat From Airasia perspectives, increasing competition because of increasing number of low cost airline competitors, and aggressive competition against the large or traditional airline companies under airlines industry such as Malaysian Airlines (MAS). Those threats will directly affect Airasia performances, profit, advantages, and indirectly affect to the holding company which is MCB as well. These are the problem that MCB must consideration after merger with Airasia. In addition, monitoring the foreign currency and adjust the profit against non-operating income are the important, because of exchange currency may cause company having the debt or gain. After MCB merger with Airasia, if MCB unable to pay Airasias liabilities, will cause both of them faced the challenge and seriously problem to become merger failure. Conclusion As a conclusion, we strongly suggest that MCB merger with Airasia. Because of those benefit are highly exceed the disadvantages of the merger. If successfully merger, MCB will have advantages of competitive between Celcom and Digi and other telecommunication network. As our information, because recent months, Celcom and Digi are plans to explore long-term network and infrastructure collaboration in Malaysia which are sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). They plan to corporation; it will threaten to MCB position in Malaysia. Thats why MCB must prepare himself and merging the target which are Airasia. Mainly reason that merger is about the tax loss carryforward for the MCB. The tax loss can be applied against a limited amount of future income of the MCB over 12years (Airasia debt period) or until the total tax loss has been fully recovered. MCB using those tax loss carryforward to expand its business at a same time. Beside that, increasing managerial skill or technology, and a dvertising through airline, those reason become the situation why MCB needs merger with Airasia. Furthermore, increasing profit on the long-term perspectives as well and because of its more pros than cons.

The Most Important College Admissions Factors
Originally published on LinkedInby Laura J. Blanche, M.Ed., President of Blanche Consulting, LLC.Reposted here with permission. Did you know the #1 criteria that college admissions officers are looking for in the admissions process is a rigorous high school curriculum? Thatââ¬â¢s right your high school transcript is ââ¬Å"numero unoâ⬠in the evaluation process. Admissions officers need to be assured that you can do the work! They look for students who have challenged themselves in say, AP or Honors courses, or someone who took a risk on a course that wasnââ¬â¢t supposed to be an ââ¬Å"easy A." Colleges would much rather see a ââ¬Å"Bâ⬠knowing youtook a risk and learned something about yourself. Upward trends are also looked upon favorably by admissions, so donââ¬â¢t get down on yourself if you may have been a slow starter. The second most important of the college admissions factors to consider is still standardized testing- your SAT or ACT scores. Test scores are used in so many different ways that it is a good practice to read the collegeââ¬â¢s testing policy on their website before you apply. Some colleges will superscore SAT or ACT scores-or take a studentââ¬â¢s highest subscores from different test dates to form a new, higher score. There are even colleges out there that do not require test scores- a good option for students whose testing may not be consistent with their high school performance (refer to Test Optional in last monthââ¬â¢s article ââ¬Å"Standardized Testing- The Old and The Newâ⬠). As college admissions evolves and colleges find new and better ways of forecasting success beyond the transcript, I do expect more and more colleges to jump on board with Test Optional or Test Flexible plans, but right now, it is still one of the most important factors for admission, placeme nt and scholarship consideration. An applicantââ¬â¢s personal statement is a very important piece to the evaluation process. This personalized, thoughtful essay first and foremost must answer the question, but also offer the committee more insight into who you are, your goals and what you value. Maybe even give them a glimpse into your personality, sense of humor, and what excites you. In addition to the personal statement, applicants will have writing supplements (additional essay questions or short answer questions) to complete in the application. These are usually more specific to the college, your desired program and your ââ¬Å"fit.â⬠Expect to do some research on the college website- I also recommend keeping notes from your college visits. Did you meet a professor? Sit in on a class? Meet an inspiring student? Maybe you were lucky enough to meet the President at the college? Note their name and context of your interaction and you may be able to work them into your college-specific essays. Leadership, involvement (extracurricular activities/community service), and passion would be next in my chronological list of important factors in the admissions process. I believe the three go hand in hand and what colleges look for arecommitment and depth. If you get involved in something, whether itââ¬â¢s a school club such as Student Council or volunteering at a local Kids Camp, and have a meaningful experience helping others or bettering your school- I bet you will become passionate about it and continue doing great things! Colleges are looking for leaders- students who arrive on campus ready to get involved and make a difference! Colleges want to know what you will bring to campus and how you will contribute. Another important factor is diversity- geographic, ethnic, cultural, political and economical. Colleges are seeking freshmen classes that round out their campus and represent all walks of life from all corners of the world. They also are looking for students who are eager to learn and want to be on their campus- as in, itââ¬â¢s your first choice! Another way to stand out in admissions is if you are flagged for a special talentsuch as a recruited athlete, musician, artist, innovator, or even a legacy (one of your parents, or perhaps a grandparent attended that school). These ââ¬Å"hooksâ⬠may be just what they are looking for and your way in! You may not ever exactly know what area a college is trying to diversify, so this, unfortunately, is a factor that is truly out of your control, but worth noting. Letters of recommendation from teachers and your guidance counselor are also important college admissions factors. Teachers are asked to comment on your abilities, intellect and potential in the context of their specific course (and level) while noting your success in the context of your classmates and school. They know you best because they are the ones experiencing your growth as you persevere through challenges and triumphs on a daily basis. Choose teachers that you feel know you and your abilities best. Guidance Counselors can give anecdotal evidence that speaks to your integrity, character, service, personality, contributions to your school, interest in learning and academic promise. Many schools use ââ¬Å"Brag Sheetsâ⬠which give you (and your parents) an opportunity to give input (highlight your best attributes and accomplishments) into your letter of recommendation. My tips for the admissions process: Challenge yourself! Choose the right courses, as rigorous as you can handle, that align to your goals. Take the SAT/ACT Comparison Test in the spring of your sophomore year to determine which test you will focus on and prep for. Distinguish yourself through your extracurricular activities. Depth over breadth. Strive for leadership positions. Keep track of your activities and involvement starting in 9th This will help tremendously with your resume and the ââ¬Å"Activitiesâ⬠section of the Common Application! Demonstrate interest in colleges by visiting campus, attending fairs and college rep meetings, as well as local information sessions. Get to know your teachers and counselor! Explore majors and careers through summer programs, internships and shadowing opportunities by the end of junior year. Get a head start on the college application process the summer before senior year! (thatââ¬â¢s where I can help!) Photo credit: LinkedIn

What Is the Moon Made Of Chemical Composition
The Earths moon is similar to the Earth in that it has a crust, mantle, and core. The composition of the two bodies is similar, which is part of why scientists think the moon may have formed from a large meteor impact breaking off a piece of the Earth while it was still forming. Scientists have samples from the surface, or crust, of the moon, but the composition of the inner layers is a mystery. Based on what we know about how planets and moons form, the core of the moon is believed to be at least partly molten and likely consists primarily of iron, with some sulfur and nickel. The core is likely small, accounting for just 1-2% of the moons mass. Crust, Mantle, and Core The largest portion of the Earths moon is the mantle. This is the layer between the crust (the part we see) and the inner core. The lunar mantle is believed to consist of olivine, orthopyroxene, and clinopyroxene. The composition of the mantle is similar to that of the Earth, but the moon may contain a higher percentage of iron. Scientists have samples of the lunar crust and take measurements of properties of the moons surface. The crust consists of 43% oxygen, 20% silicon, 19% magnesium, 10% iron, 3% calcium, 3% aluminum, and trace amounts of other elements, including chromium (0.42%), titanium (0.18%), manganese (0.12%), and smaller amounts of uranium, thorium, potassium, hydrogen, and other elements. These elements form a concrete-like coating called regolith. Two types of moon rocks have been collected from the regolith: mafic plutonic and maria basalt. Both are types of igneous rocks, which formed from cooling lava. The Moons Atmosphere Although it is very thin, the moon does have an atmosphere. The composition is not well known, but it is estimated to consist of helium, neon, hydrogen (H2), argon, neon, methane, ammonia, and carbon dioxide, with trace amounts of oxygen, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus, sodium, and magnesium ions. Because conditions contrast sharply depending on the hour, the composition during the day may be somewhat different from the atmosphere at night. Even though the moon has an atmosphere, it is too thin to breathe and includes compounds you wouldnt want in your lungs. Learn More If youre interested in learning more about the moon and its composition, NASAs moon fact sheet is a great starting point. You may also be curious about how the moon smells (no, not like cheese) and the difference between the composition of the Earth and its moon. From here, notice the difference between the composition of the Earths crust and the compounds found in the atmosphere.

Indian Government liberalized the banking system through Indian Banking Sector Reform in 1991. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Development of Indias Banking System" essay for you Create order From the first bank in India in 1786, the development of Indian Banking System has three distinct phases. Early Phase (1786 1969) There were 1100 small banks in India. The Government implemented the Banking Companies Act 1949 to facilitate the functioning of commercial banks. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was authorized to supervise the Indian banking sector and became the Central Banking Authority. Post Nationalization Period (1969 1991) State Bank of India was formed to act as a principal agent of RBI and handle banking transactions in India. Fourteen major commercial banks were nationalized as there was a decline in public confidence during the early phase. Nationalization guaranteed the sustainability of banking industry and aroused public confidence. Post-Liberalization Period (1991 now) Liberalization of banking practices occurred. Foreign banks, ATMs, phone banking, net banking were introduced to make the banking system more convenient and efficient. The development of banking system is transiting. Public-Sector Banks contributes to 78% of total banking industry asset. Private-Sector Banks, on the other hand, are experiencing great progress in internet banking, ATMs and other technology advancements. They are likely to expand in India. Central Bank Reserve Bank of India It was established in 1935 and was nationalized in 1949. It has 8 functions explained as follows: Note Issuance: It has the sole right to issue bank notes of all denominations as an agent of the Government. Government Banker: It acts as Government banker, agent and adviser. It controls the banking system through licensing, inspection and calling for information. It also supervises and controls commercial and cooperative banks. Maintenance of Minimum Reserve Ratio: RBI set the cash reserve ratio is 5% and repo rate is 4.75 % in 2009. Lender of Last Resort: It acts as the lender of last resort by providing rediscount facilities to scheduled banks. Credit Controller: It controls the credit operations of banks quantitatively and qualitatively like open market operations, discount policies and reserve requirements. Settlement of Clearing Functions: RBI facilitates the inter-bank clearing of current accounts in 1050 clearing houses in India. Custodian of Foreign Reserves: RBI sets a limit on money transfer in and out of India under Foreign Exchange Management Act. It examines Indias reserve of international currencies and maintains the official rate of exchange with all member countries of International Monetary Fund. Promotional Functions: RBI is responsible to extend banking facilities to rural and semi-urban areas, and establish and promote new specialized financing agencies. Banking System Banks in India The Reserve Bank of India heads the Indian commercial banks. Banks in India can be categorized into three tiers scheduled commercial banks; regional rural banks which operate in rural areas not covered by scheduled banks; and cooperative and special purpose rural banks. There are approximately 98 scheduled commercial banks, both Indian and foreign, almost 200 regional rural banks, more than 350 central cooperative banks, 20 land development banks, and a number of agricultural credit societies. Commercial Banks Commercial banking is dominated by 28 state-owned banks controlling 69.9% of assets in the sector in 2007/08. Private domestic held 21.7% and foreign banks had the remaining 8.4%. Commercial banks can be categorized into domestic banks and foreign banks. Domestic Banks They include public-sector banks, private-sector banks and savings, mortgage and co-operative banks. The biggest domestic bank is a public-sector bank, State Bank of India with market share 16.83%. The second biggest domestic bank is a private-sector bank, ICICI Bank with market share 9.11%. Public-Sector Banks They have a country wide networks and each has its own geographic stronghold. They provide a full range of banking services and are an important source of short-term funds. State Bank of India is the largest bank providing 16.83$ of loan advances in 2007/08. In 2008, SBI merged its subsidiary, State Bank of Saurashtra, and is increasing its international presence. The introduction of stringent capital-adequacy, income-recognition and asset-classification norms in economic reform promoted public-sector banks to reveal true positions in financial statements. The gap between strong and weak banks is thus widened. Private-Sector Banks There were 41 private-sector banks and 18 of them were listed on the stock exchange as of 2009. They usually have strong regional client bases and upgrade their technology and services. ICICI, the largest private-sector bank, merged with Bank of Madura in 2001 and Shangli Bank in 2007. Life Insurance Corporation of India raised its stake in Corporation Bank to 27% from 12.32% in 2001. It is expected that more mergers and acquisitions will be found in the coming decade. Savings, mortgages and co-operative banks They are small and contribute slightly to the source of funds for most companies. They tend to finance rural and small sectors and have geographically-restricted operations. New RBI regulations have imposed restrictions on them in 2001 as some urban cooperative banks were discovered to have a high exposure to the stock market. Foreign Banks The biggest foreign bank is Citibank with market share 1.55%. Standard Chartered Bank ranked the second. Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC and ABN Amro Bank dominate the sector in the diagram shown below. Comparing the advances of foreign banks and that of commercial banks, it is shown that foreign banks play a small role in banking industry. They accounted for 8.4% of total commercial-bank assets in 2007/08. But the rising net profits of the banks to Rs66.12bn in 2007/08 from Rs45.85bn in 2006/07 suggested the increasing importance of this sector. Foreign banks offer borrowing terms similar to local banks, but their benchmark prime lending rates are 1 to 3 percentage points higher. Foreign banks usually form part of a lending consortium. Foreign banks without a branch presence can conduct business through representative offices. These banks concentrate on providing offshore currency loans and related foreign-exchange products, rather than retail banking or local-currency lending. Investment Banks and Brokerages Investment banks and brokerages rely on advisory business. They have a limited involvement in risk capital. They can weather the downturn without the risk of going out of business. However, if the downturn continues in 2010, some banks may leave the small Indian market. Citi(US) and JM Financial Group have the greatest market share in this sector with their contribution of more than half deal value. Given the growth of Indian market, major foreign investment banks have reworked their partnerships with investment banks to help them to capture a greater market share. Development Banks Public-sector development banks were traditionally the principle source of long-term capital. Development banks provide medium and long-term rupee and foreign-currency financing, underwrite and subscribe to stocks and debentures. Due to the financial sector reform, they offer new services and products, set up organizations to provide a variety of financial services. Some countrywide development banks are Industrial Finance Corp of India and Industrial Investment Bank of India. The Post Office Saving Bank It has the largest retail-bank network, with over 155,000 branches. A growing number of post offices are also connected electronically. Given its large distribution network, India Post now leverages its presence to become a general financial-services distributor. It provides various mutual funds and bonds. It also offers an inward international money-transfer service. Offshore Banks Banks are allowed to set up overseas banking units within the countrys special economic zones functioning as overseas branches of domestic banks. Six domestic banks set up overseas banking units: Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India and Union Bank. Domestic banks can enjoy a tax deduction on the income from OBUs and advantages of global presence. Banks Deposit Composition The deposits of national banks dominate the banking industry because they are backed up by the government and the public thus have confidence in nationalized banks. However, regional rural banks have a small share of deposits. It is mainly due to the lower income level in rural areas. Although foreign banks have a second smallest share of deposits, liberalization of the banking industry will allow them to expand their business. Competitive Situation More aggressive merger and acquisition are stemming in India. One advantages stemming from merger is the ability to cross-sell a slew of retail products including housing loans, car loans, personal finance and credit cards. Further, merged entity will be able to compete with threats from global players, for instance, HSBC and Citibank. However, challenges of merger are the integration of financial and human resources, as well as satisfying statutory requirements. Also some FIs faced the problem of relying on an increasing cagey market to raise capital. As FIs were funding long-term projects with money rose short term, there was a critical asset-liability disparity. RBI then proposed to convert financial institutions into universal banks recently. A reverse merger with their own subsidiary banks will now give FIs access to low-cost funds. The trend of mergers and acquisitions will prevail in the coming years. Economic Conditions Indian banks balance sheets are not directly exposed to sub-prime mortgage leading in US. The GDP and GDP per capital are expected to grow in the coming decade. The global financial crisis does not undermine the banking industry in India in a great extent. The assessment of the banking sector risk is rather low compared to that in Asia and Australasia in 2009. The expansion of consumer credit does not pose a high risk to the banking industry as the level of debts per customer remains low. In contrast, RBI moved the focus of its policy from boosting economic growth to containing inflation. Interest rates are expected to rise and tighter monetary policy are expected to be implemented. Conclusions The liberalization of banking system has (1) strengthen the banking sector (2) provide more operational flexibility to banks (3) enhance the competitive efficiency of banks (4) strengthen the legal framework governing bank operations. This well-developed banking system is favourable when it comes to expansion in India. However, a keen competition is found in India. Each sector has various existing banks with strong customer loyalty. Numerous state-owned banks and FIs are the dominant players in India. Despite the stable Indian economy and the steady and slow movement towards liberalization of banking system, the Government will probably strengthen the financial regulatory system sufficiently before a complete liberalization. Therefore, it is concluded that India is not suitable for expansion. References World Bank (2009). Word Bank in India. Melancholic Hamlet Essay - 1110 Words
Melancholic Hamletnbsp;nbsp; Hamlet is a melancholic young man who does not value human life; however, he will do anything it takes to accomplish his main goal: revenge on Claudius for the death of his father. In his seven soliloquies we learn that Hamlet has become melancholic, violent, and suicidal. There are several incidences where these emotions are expressed. His melancholic attitude is very apparent in the second scene of Act I, when he suggests that his mother, in mourning his fathers death, is simply acting the part of a grief stricken widow, while he is a truly heart broken son. Another example from his first soliloquy of his melancholic state occurs when he discovers the rapid marriage of his mother and his uncle, whereâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Hamletââ¬â¢s melancholic emotions are very apparent throughout the play. A second portrayal of his melancholic emotion is when he learns that his mother is going to marry his uncle. In this scene Hamlet is both mad and sad that his mother could move on so quickly, frailty, thy name is woman.(Act I; ii ; 146) These feelings of being mad and sad are also shown when he says, Did coldly furnish forth the marriage tables. Would I had met my dearest foe in heaven.(Act I; ii ; 181-182) Here Hamlet is saying that he wishes that he had met his worst enemy in paradise than witness his motherââ¬â¢s wedding. Do to these events that occurred Hamlet became melancholic, however I feel that this emotion only motivated Hamlet to accomplish his goal. As per the revelations of Australian Securities and Investments Commission, the competitive and fast food chains along with some KFC stores in Australia made a profit of around $20 million from $1 billion in profit in 2014 (Allegretto et al. 2013). However, Hungry Jacks has been known to dominate the fast food market, but elevated diversification is likely to restrain their revenue generation (De Vogli, Kouvonen and Gimeno 2014). Along with the fast food company has been concentrating on waste reduction in order to minimise costs while larger organizations contract directly with the suppliers to circumvent the wholesale growth. The company has further introduced their major brand promotion by bring in the tagline Keeping it Real. The campaign was accounted for parodying the foodie culture that has been the trend of recent times thereby dominating the major part of Australia (Lacy and R utqvist 2016). The amount of expenditure spent by the company has been minimal to track, as their consumers owned a common base across the numerous social media networks. Furthermore, sourcing services from Fiverr.com, the company has managed to achieve its social media followers to employ one of the TVC stars, that is Axel, the dog with the owner who has been rewarded $5 for the image of Axel (De Vogli, Kouvonen and Gimeno 2014). The companys experiment of $5 has resulted a rise in the level of social media engagement of the company that is over 250,000 customers, producing considerably increased conversations among the users of Facebook on the initial book of the $5 Experiment as well as attracting millions of recent Facebook followers along with YouTube video views (Allegretto et al. 2013). Through the massive socia l media implementation, the company has managed to witness a growth of over 50% since 2016 (Freeman et al. 2014). Public Perception on Hungry Jacks Hungry Jacks though being the leading fast food chain in Australia is being incompetent to maintain a renowned reputation lately. The company must take its accountability to keep effective supervision of its employee base. Hungry Jacks has posed no compulsion to seek to have the debtor organization that would consider the employee responsibility taking into account the commencing procedures. The company has been Australians favourite because of its high quality food. The fast food outlet has recently been in the light of media regrading work permit of foreign workers. The ministry of immigration and border protection recently has made an announcement of terminating the employment agreement of fast food industry whereby, foreign labourers are prohibited to work in their outlets (Lacy and Rutqvist 2016). Since the contract was announced, only 400 foreign labourers have been granted visas for employment in the Australian fast food industry (Doherty 2018). The Australian employees specif ically the youth population of Australia have been provided with utmost priority and has been guaranteed of productive career pathways to the young Australians. As the result, Hungry Jacks has intensively focused on employing young Australians recruits further giving them greater opportunities and career growth. Natural Resources Policy of Financial Research - Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss about the Natural Resources Policy of Financial Research. Answer: Capital investment decisions which is even known as capital budgeting or investment appraisal comprises of undertaking decisions that should have vital future advantages for the firm and its shareholders. The responsibility of the management in undertaking the right decisions on the investments in the long term assets and hence should pursue the key objective of generating additional wealth to the shareholders and the owners, as any faults may lead to a disastrous result and extensive losses. According to Arrow and Lind (2014), undertaking sound and effective business decisions is vital because as specifically huge amount of resources are generally involved and it is generally difficult or costly to back out from an investment after it has been undertaken. A development in the new and innovative technologies, products, equipment, facilities and plants need the requirement and usage of funds and therefore some parts of planning is essential to guarantee the success and to minimise the risk of failure. However, unfortunately various businesses around the globe fail as their capital investments are reliant on the spontaneous process of decision making, false calculations and incorrect factors. This is in some what is acknowledgeable as more than 90% of the businesses around the globe are Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that manufactures more than 50% of the global GDP and employees a huge portion of the population of the world. Even though these companies for the base of the global economy, there has been an observation that most of them have the deficiency of the financial innovation of big businesses and therefore obligate serious mistakes in their decisions with respect to investment that may generally lead to adverse outcomes (Hel ms, Salm and Wstenhagen 2015). There are numerous formal processes and techniques that are exploited more or less efficiently by the managers and the companies in their process of capital budgeting. This can be understood by explaining the four general methods of investment appraisal that can be explained as follows: Accounting Rate of Return (ARR): This is even known as the average rate of return which is a financial ratio addressed in percentage and calculated by dividing the aggregate profit by the aggregate investments undertaken during a project life. It computes the anticipated returns from the net income and shows it in the percentage to the investments that have been made initially (Graham, Harvey and Puri 2015). Conversely, while this process is generally utilised and accepted its crucial restriction has been that it takes no focus on the factor of timing and hence a comparison among the several projects can show them equally attractive while certain others may create a faster investment return but may not be addressed as an effective option for investment. Payback Period (PP): This approach computes the required tine for the investment return to be undertaken from real cash flow that is created by a project. Therefore, the projects that will be able to recover the investments made initially faster are regarded more effective and hence stress on liquidity is given stress over profitability in the payback period method (Lane and Rosewall 2015). The time factors have a crucial role in this aspect and therefore payback period is regarded a better choice than the Accounting Rate of Return process Net Present Value: This method is regarded as a better solution of investment appraisal as it looks into the benefits and costs of a project as well as the timing factor in the process of calculation. The net present value discounts the future anticipated cash inflow from the project of investment explaining the interest that is lost to the investors, the associated risk and inflation that is anticipated (Ã
½iÃ
¾lavsk 2014). Internal Rate of Return (IRR): The internal rate of return even exploits the discounting future cash flows in the computation of a specific investment and represents the investment opportunity yields. Internal Rate of Return is the rate of discount that is explained as a percentage that will show a zero value on the net present value when it is implied to the future cash flows. Therefore, if Internal Rate of Return is more than the desired rate of return, then the investment is looked upon as profitable. Reference List Arrow, K.J. and Lind, R.C., 2014. My Antonia Essays (377 words) - My Ntonia, Antonii, Willa Cather
My Antonia My Antonia, by Willa Cather has many symbols through out the novel. Symbolism reflects her own views as a child through her life. Some of these symbols are Jim's grandomother's garden and snake-killing incident. Jim's grandomother's garden made him fell as a part of nature, as human beings originally were in the Garden of Eden. When he came to the garden he would also wonder if people felt like this when they died and became a part of knowledge, goodness, sun and air. His maturity makes him feel how he really feels about Antonia. Jim was always afraid to tell Antonia how he felt about her. Ever since Jim laid eyes on her, he knew that she was the love of his life, but didn't want to tell her because of the big difference of the social classes. Jim often wondered if Antonia could serve as a motherm friend, lover or sweetheart. In the garden Jim and Antonia would play around, work in the garden and picked potatos. The garden symbolizes the freedom that children enjoyed during the youth years. When the sanke-incident happens Antonia brags about how brave Jim was. Antonia exclaimed to Jim's family, He fight something awful! He is all over Jimmy's boots. I scream for him to run, but he jsut hit an hit that snake like he was crazy. (Page 33). At this point Jim realizes that Antonia was more that a friend but Antonia sees him more like a little brother especially since he is four years younger than him. Work can also be another symbol in the term that Antonia worked hard in the farm. Her neck came up strongly out of her shoulders, like the hole of a tree out of the turf Cather emphasizes. Antonia goal was to prove her mother that she can work as well as Ambrosch leads her to compete with the men plowing and to pick up masculine traits that overshadow her feminity. Antonia would always work hard in the fields and people knew she was a hard worker. This symbol of work showes how she does not give up even though she is a girl. Through out the novel symbolism is often used in every chapter. Willa Cather often used symbolism portaining to Jim and Antonia. Willa Cather thought that using symbolism would bring more meaning to the novel. Book Reports

We the People Sample Essay - Were You Right to Vote For Trump?
We the People Sample Essay - Were You Right to Vote For Trump?Recently, a student was assigned to write a portion of a 'We the People' sample essay. He was assigned to write about whether or not he believed the United States was justified in going to war with Mexico. I believe that all of us should question the US government's reasons for waging war with Mexico because it was never the Mexicans' fault and we are the aggressors. Please consider this in 2020.Here is the statement that he wrote:'Mexican people are very rich. The Mexicans use the oil money to build luxurious palaces, resorts, and schools.'This is what the US government has been telling the American people, and many Americans are buying it. The US government knows that these people can be used against us and have used them before, as they did in Nicaragua and Grenada. The reason that the US was able to win its first Gulf War because of the propaganda they planted into the minds of the Iraqi people, is because they had tool s such as infomercials and personal development seminars to exploit this particular group of people. It did not take long for the United States to earn their trust and then wins the war.All I am saying is that if you ask me, are we justified in going to war with Mexico, I do not believe that the Mexican people deserve to have a country called Mexico. What I am saying is that the United States was wrong in attacking Mexico. I am asking those that did this to please take a good look in the mirror.Additionally, what the United States is not telling you, is that before there was NAFTA, Mexico was already an independent nation. Mexico was not that far behind on producing oil when the United States attacked Iraq, and the Mexican people are not rich because of that either. Therefore, the United States would have never been able to overthrow their democratically elected government and put in a dictatorship. There is a much better way to go about the business of international relations, which is to reach out to other nations, and make them friends.

Functions of Management at Arthur Andersen
Functions of Management at Arthur Andersen Free Online Research Papers Arthur Andersen was founded in 1913 in Chicago, Illinois and was seen as one of thee top accounting firms in the country with over 20,000 employees in the United States alone. Over the years times change and so does revenue, Arthur Andersen (the man himself) had high standards as to the practice of accounting, but his practice after his death in 1947 did not, resulting in many ethic and legal violations. WorldCom, Waste Management, and Enron are some of Arthur Andersenââ¬â¢s clients that have caused this once great accounting firm to almost non-existence. We will investigate Arthur Andersonââ¬â¢s legal, ethic, and social responsibility towards strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency planning to show how it has affected the company today. Introduction Arthur Andersen LLP once was recognized as one of the top accounting and auditing firms in the nation. Andersen had a broad range of clients from different industries and countries across the world, until legal and ethic violations ended the organizations reign in 2002 with the collapse of the Enron Corporation. Even before Enron there was speculation of wrongdoing with WorldCom as too the auditing practices of Arthur Andersen. Management planning at Arthur Andersen was known for making sound decisions with partners and alliances, until the late 1990ââ¬â¢s where greed and illegal auditing practices took over. Due to ethic, legal, and social responsibility companies like WorldCom and Arthur Andersen collapsed and changes were made to protect the public from further illegal operations. Functions of management According to Niece, Trompeter (2004) all Andersen employees were trained in the same methods and each office followed firm policies established by the central management in the office of the chairman. Partnerships were the firms top management, Andersen had 50% share and was president, then his partner Leonard Spacek was vice president, over the years the firm would have more partners and employees. From there the firm introduced a committee to oversee rules and regulations called committee on accounting principles and auditing procedures (CAPAP). Like any big service industry company, management wanted to branch out in different areas such as consulting and management, with these new functions brought on divisions, not only in the States but in other countries as well. This would make Arthur Andersen the biggest accounting firm in the World. As Arthur Andersen grew so did greed from within the company, and alliances and divisions were split. This caused more competition and increase d greed among management of the firms resulting in legal and ethic violations at Arthur Andersen. Legal Issues Legal issues were never an issue in the early days of Arthur Andersen, when the organization was smaller and more structured. In 1996 Waste Management came to light in both legal and ethic violations as the SEC found Andersen reckless in their auditing practices. This led to charging large fees and making Waste Management look better on paper than originally thought without even receiving the correct financials. In the years 2000-2002 Arthur Andersen was caught in the middle of another scandal that rocked the economy: WorldCom was in the midst of the same illegal mischief as Waste Management but to a deeper extent and right in the center of this mess was Arthur Andersen. The Auditing firm for both Waste Management and WorldCom was in back to back battles with forging documents and fraud, but seemingly only received fines and a closer eye from the SEC and the federal government. David Duncan President of Enron was accused of shredding documents along with Arthur Andersen was the final and last straw for the firm, and in 2002 was brought up on federal charges of fraud, but in the end all the Andersen firm got was obstructing justice and lost their license to conduct audits even though they were never convicted or charged with bad audits. Ethics Arthur Andersen was an organization that was committed to honesty, integerty, independence, high legal and ethical standards, and dedication to the public; and now in 2008 the company is nothing more than a shadow of itââ¬â¢s former self. Ethics was important to Arthur Andersen who donated more than $5 million dollars to universities for awareness of ethical issues pertaining to business. Ethics was the backbone of the form that Arthur Andersen started in 1913, and due to the greed of cooperate officers and its partners has seen the last of this once proud and respected firm. Accounting and auditing practices have long held high standards of ethics, and due to the disasters of these organizations certain laws have been passed to bring confidence back to the public of financial institutions, the Sarbanes-Oxley act of 2002 is one that requires the rotation of lead auditors within in a firm to conduct audits. According to Orin (2008) the Sarbanes-Oxley act should be expanded to requ ire audit-firm rotation. This would bring independence back and restore public trust. Social Responsibility In order to take social and corporate responsibility, a organization must admit guilt. Arthur Andersen never really admitted any wrong doing in none of their cases in court, but did pay fines and reimburse shareholders for their loss. Is this all Arthur Andersen can do is pay fines and costs and not serve any other sanctions? Arthur Andersenââ¬â¢s social responsibility was to admit guilt and surrender its licenses to practice accounting, which it never did and to this day still, has operations in Chicago. With little or no customers the damage was done to this century old firm, and Arthur Andersen now holds the burden of social responsibility with no business. Factors of Planning Illegal and ethic violations: One factor that effects strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency planning is illegal and ethic violations, once these allegations are made the company needs to revisit strategies and come up with a plan to fight these allegations. The second phase would be tactical, what tactics are going to be used and how to implement them, this changes in how you operate not 100%, but as you could see if found guilty of any wrongdoing, your operations have been altered and need to be restructured. No company can plan for a disaster has the one that faced Arthur Andersen, but contingency plans were in place as to a legal council to brief and research certain violations pertaining to accounting. Cultural factors: Cultural factors can play a part in all phases of planning especially with international companies like Arthur Andersen. In the early 1940ââ¬â¢s the firm wanted to improve relations with consumers and businesses overseas, this needed to be done by changing all plans in order to gain the confidence and respect of different cultures. Arthur Andersen did what all organizations do that succeed internationally, that is changes the plans of the organization. Economic factors: Economic factors can be the most important factor to changing all of an organizations planning. Whether the world is in a good market or bad, plans need to be changed when this happens. Another factor the economy plays is greed and Arthur Andersenââ¬â¢s demise was greed, this brought down the organization where no planning could save the firm, not even the contingency plan the firm had in place. Other organizations such as Chrysler has felt this economic crunch and has had too restructure the company from top to bottom in order to survive, at least for now. Conclusion Arthur Andersen was a top 5 accounting firm and due to poor management and greed the organization failed. Arthur Andersen basically created the standards of ethics for accounting and now it turned it back on the accounting practice, the public, and trust of companies to gain a profit and rise above the competition. When dealing with illegal activity and ethic violations the law and the public will always come out on top and the members of Arthur Andersen have forgotten all of the issues, ethics and responsibilities that made the firm a top 5 accounting institution. Since 1913 all of the planning and resources that the man Arthur Andersen had laid out is gone as quick as a Chicago wind. Many accounting firms have suffered in the wake of poor public perception and some have gained from the loss of Arthur Andersen. I wonder which company will be next in the news due to poor management planning and scandal. References Niece, J., Trompeter, G. (2004, Summer 2004).
